Olympic Taekwondo

The main objective of Taekwondo is to land kicks and punches on your opponent’s scoring zones: one point is awarded for a valid kick or punch to the torso, two points for a valid spinning kick, and four points for a turning kick to the head.


The action takes place inside an 8m x 8m zone called a court, with each contest made up of three two-minute rounds. Taekwondo games introduce as a show in 1988 at Seoul games, but were not officially added to the Olympic programme. Taekwondo is a regular part of Olympic since Sydney 2000 games.

Olympic Judo contests last five minutes, with scores awarded for different throws and holds. However, a contest ends immediately if a competitor is awarded ‘ippon’ – the maximum score. If the scores are tied after five minutes, the contest enters a golden score period, when the first score of any sort wins.


Olympic Judo is a sport for which athletes are called upon to use an complicated mix of attack and defence. Olympic Judo is a regular part since 1964 as a medal sport at the Olympic Games at Tokyo. A women’s contest was finally added to the Olympic programme at Barcelona in 1992.

Olympic Cycling Road

The Olympic Cycling Road planned includes two Road Cycling events for both men and women. For the Road Race (approximately 250km for men, 140km for women), all competitors start together, and the first rider to cross the end line wins gold.


Olympic Cycling Road is regular part of Summer Olympics since 1896s, with an 87km race that started and finished in Athens. There was no Road Cycling event at the next three Games, but the control was reintroduced in 1912 and has been a permanent part of the Olympic programme ever since.
