Olympic Canoe Sprint Introduction


Although canoe sprint event was a part of Berlin games in 1924. But canoe sprint competition become a regular part of Olympic in 1936 summer games which was held in Paris. Although from 1936 to 1956 Olympic competition canoe sprint also has 10 kilometer race event along with 1 kilometer canoe race. But it was announced by the international canoe federation mens 500 meter event would be replaced at 2012 summer Olympics  by 200 meter event. In 200 M event women can also participate.





Canoe sprint competition has a individual and double along with team event. Two styles of boats are used in this event 1 or 2 canoe and kayaks with 1 , 2 or 4 kayakers. Each category has its unique name designation. For example c-1 for canoe single event and k-2 is for kayaks double event races are usually 500 meter or 1000 meter long which are specified by the international canoe federation.





Canoe sprint event takes place on a straight course divided into lanes on the surface of still and calm water. Each boat has its unique line except for over 1000 meter race. The official boats recognized by the international canoe federation as international boats are as following. K1 , k2, k4, c1, c2,and c4 where the number indicates the number of paddlers and C stands for canoe and K stands for kayaks.





Now London 2012 Olympics will present canoe sprint for 200 meter 500 meter and 1000 meter competition from 6 August to 11 August at Eton Dorney. In which 248 athletes participate for 12 Gold medals and especially for the glory of their nation.
